Business Challenges
Fung Lea Food Ltd. found itself facing three on-premises phone systems, each installed at a different location. All were very old legacy systems, and one was already out of service. These systems offered only basic functions, without the many advanced features that modern businesses require. Among the missing capabilities was the connection needed to display BLF (Busy Lamp Field) indicators for extensions across sites. The legacy systems also did not allow call control beyond manually answering, hanging up, and dialing. As a result, there were no custom routing rules for creating queues, triggering after-hours messages, and so on. In short, Fung Lea Food Ltd. needed a comprehensive solution to solve its communications problem.
Solutions Proposed by Sangoma
While researching a new phone system, Fung Lea Food Ltd. discovered that Sangoma was the ideal provider to meet all its future business communications requirements. The company wanted communications for all offices and sites centralized on a single IP PBX, with hardware and software deployment as simple as possible to facilitate maintenance and administration. Since it had an experienced technical team, it chose an on-premises phone system to achieve long-term savings by avoiding monthly hosting and maintenance fees and investing in a single purchase of equipment, software, and accessories. In addition, the company had grown considerably since its last investment in a phone system. It needed extensive and advanced features its old systems did not offer, including queues, time conditions, voicemail, and dynamic BLF keys on phones. Fortunately, Sangoma provided everything needed, with the option to scale up to a more advanced unified communications (UC) system.

The Results
Fung Lea Food Ltd. deployed FreePBX virtually in its secure internal Hyper‑V environment. This made configuration and connectivity extremely simple, even with multiple sites. To complete the solution, they provisioned 25 Sangoma S‑Series desktop IP phones and several DECT wireless phones. To enable the required advanced features, Fung Lea Food’s FreePBX phone system was enhanced with several key Sangoma commercial modules. These included modules for extension routing, Sangoma End Point Manager, interactive voice response, call queues, music on hold, call recording, date/time-based call rules, advanced call control, and weekly off-site backup. The staff at Fung Lea Food Ltd. are very impressed with their new Sangoma UC phone system. If they had to choose two words to describe Sangoma and FreePBX, they would say “simplicity” and “flexibility.” This is because both the IT staff and general staff were amazed by how quickly FreePBX was deployed and how easily it could be configured to meet their specific needs and provision their new phones through Sangoma End Point Manager. Deployed in a single morning, Fung Lea Food Pty.
